Overview
TJ Atkin Ltd were appointed to construct and manage the delivery of a prototype electric vehicle charging station for a national client. The scheme incorporated integrated battery storage and solar panels, all within the site of an existing coffee shop and drive-through facility.
The project involved installing the new EV charging infrastructure within the existing car park, beneath a cantilevered solar canopy, while ensuring that works were completed without disruption to the tenant’s ongoing business operations.
Our Approach
TJ Atkin Ltd were responsible for the construction of four in-situ reinforced concrete foundation bases, built to third-party design and quality specifications. These formed the structural foundations for both the charging units and the solar canopy.
All works were carried out within the existing block paved SuDS-compliant car park, requiring careful coordination and reinstatement to maintain drainage performance and aesthetics.
We also managed the installation of service ducting to link all system components and allow for future expansion. The project required precise lifting operations to position equipment and canopy elements safely within the live site environment.
TJ Atkin Ltd managed the site throughout the construction phase, before handing over to the client’s electrical contractor for the completion of charging infrastructure and final commissioning.
